[ Kip's Story ]
Tim Sadler
New Zealand native Tim Sadler is Owen Clarke Design's lead designer for the build, designing primary mechanical systems such as the canting keel, daggerboard, and steering. Tim provided McConaghy Boats with the detailed drawings and structural information necessary to build the boat, and served as the link between Owen Clarke, SP Engineering, Alan Nebauer, and the yard. He joined the team again in March 2004 to prepare Artforms for the May 31 start of The Transat.
Alan Nebauer
Australian Alan Nebauer lent his expertise from the 50’ class as a builder, skipper and a project manager in two former BOC/Around Alone campaigns. Alan was the project manager for Owen Clarke Designs during the build of Artforms, and coordinated between Kip, the yard, sub-contractors and the design team. He saw the yacht through builders’ trials and joined Kip in the passage from New Zealand to the Falkland Islands via Cape Horn.
Merfyn Owen
Merfyn Owen of Owen Clarke Design Group was the lead designer in the conceptual and preliminary period of the design. He brings to the project extensive background with the class, specifically from his involvement as a designer of Ellen MacArthur's Kingfisher. Merfyn is responsible for the main parameters of the yacht: its hull, sail plan, and appendage design. He worked closely with Kip to define the base boat, then handed control to Tim in the New Zealand office while maintaining watch on the progress of the build in Australia.
Caroline Kurrus
Caroline Kurrus manages shore communications and logistics for the KSOpen50 team. Using her background in writing and planning, Caroline administers the web site and its subscriber list, publishes the new updates, posts the skipper's logs and photo galleries. She also processes tee-shirt orders and handles special events for Kip and Artforms.
